Week of 4/23/12

We will be retaking the quiz on Congruent/Pythagorean Theorem tomorrow (4/24/12). The students were given a worksheet to help prepare for the quiz. The worksheet will be counted as a daily grade. Thursday and Friday (if needed) we will be taking a mock CRCT test that will count as their 4th 9 weeks benchmark grade.

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

4/11/12

I have created 5 assessments on study island for additional practice for the CRCT. This is optional and will be counted as extra credit.

Monday, April 9, 2012

Week of 4/9/12

Review, review, review! We will be working out on the workbook titled "Georgia Grade 8 Mathematics" on pages 35 - 108. Any work in this workbook will help the students prepare for the CRCT next week. At the end of each class, the students are provided with the correct answers so that they can check their work. If they didn't finish in class, they need to finish at home and also rework the problems they answered incorrectly.

Study for the quiz over systems of linear equations that will be given tomorrow. The quiz consists of 4 multiple choice questions and 2 questions to solve by graphing, substitution, or elimination.

We've also been working on graphing a system of linear inequalities. Students must complete one (of the two passed out) worksheet on linear inequalities.

Test on Thursday (or Friday if you are absent).

GALT Workbook page 174 # 3-6, 8, 9, 13, 14, and 15. Some students were able to finish the assignment in class. A different quiz on systems of equations will be given next Tuesday. The unit test will be next Thursday. If students are not at school, they can complete the test before or after.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

2/22/12 Homework

The students were given a worksheet on graphing inequalities in class. Their homework is the front side (4 problems). Some students may have finished the assignment at school.

Friday, February 17, 2012

2/17/12

The quiz that I gave the students on Tuesday on systems of linear equations showed that the students did not understand the material. We reviewed yesterday by taking notes. They were given back their quizzes today to finish/correct. Next Tuesday we will graph linear inequalities.

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

2/14/12 Homework

Homework for tonight: Complete a "quick write" on systems of equations. What is your favorite method to solve a system of equations? Why?

Monday, February 13, 2012

2/13/12 Homework

Worksheet on all three methods to solve a system of equations (graphing, substitution, and elimination). Completing this homework will be great practice for the quiz tomorrow.

Sunday, February 12, 2012

Week of 2/13/12

This will be a very busy week in math.

Monday - Finish worksheet from Friday on elimination method (Homework - worksheet on all three methods for solving systems of equations - very similar to quiz)
Tuesday - Quiz on all three methods (6 questions) Start word problems
Wednesday - Writing/solving word problems with systems of equations (Homework - worksheet)
Thursday - Introduction to inequalities (Homework)
Friday - Inequalities

Thursday, February 9, 2012

2/9/12 Homework

It sure is nice to be back to school! We finally discussed the elimination method for solving a system of equations. There are two homework problems for all classes. Page 169 in the GALT workbook, problems #8 and #9. Some students were able to finish this assignment during class. Tomorrow we will continue with the elimination method.

Monday, February 6, 2012

Out Sick!

I have a sinus infection and the doctor will not let me work until Thursday, 2/9/12. I have provided work for the substitute on systems of equations (graphing and substitution). We will learn the elimination method on Thursday. The quiz will have to be moved to early next week.

Sunday, February 5, 2012

Week of 2/6/12

We will be learning the third method to solve a system of equations, called elimination. (The first method was graphing and the second method was substitution.) There will be a quiz on Thursday or Friday over all three methods.

Thursday, February 2, 2012

2/2/12 Homework

We went over solving a system of equations through substitution today. The students need to do page 169 problems 4 and 5 in their workbook.

Saturday, January 28, 2012

Week of 1/30/12

Monday - Retest of Unit 4 (slope, slope-intercept form, parallel and perpendicular lines, and function notation)

The rest of the week we will be learning 3 ways to solve a system of equations: using graphs, elimination, and substitution. It should be a fun week!

Thursday, January 26, 2012

1/26/12 Homework Tonight!

We learned about systems of equations today and that you can have one solution (an ordered pair), no solutions (parallel lines), and many solutions (the same line). All classes were assigned homework in the GALT Workbook page 161 Problems #1-9.

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

1/24/12 No Homework

The students took the Unit 4 test today. There was also a homework sheet called Function Notation due today. No homework tonight - except to complete any missing work. Tomorrow we will finish the test (some students did not finish) and start Unit 5 - Systems. Unit 5 includes systems of linear equations, graphing linear inequalities, nonlinear functions, and sequences.

Friday, January 20, 2012

1/20/12 No Homework

Today we reviewed writing equations for parallel and perpendicular lines, briefly discussed the best-fitting line, and started learning about function notation. Next Monday will be a review day and the test will be on Tuesday. Have a great weekend!

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

1/18/12

Due to the short week and writing test, I've decided to postpone the Unit 4 test until next week. The test will be on Tuesday, 1/24/12. It will cover slope, slope-intercept form, writing linear equations and function notation.

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

1/17/12 Homework

The students were given a half-page print out of their missing work (LOTS of failing students due to missing work). In class we reviewed the slope of parallel and perpendicular lines to a given line. Then we discussed writing linear equations. The homework is a worksheet (Writing Linear Equations) and problems #18 and #19 from their workbook (page 147) should be written and solved on the back.

Friday, January 13, 2012

1/13/12 No Homework

We discussed the slope of parallel and perpendicular lines in class today. Next week we will try to finish Unit 4 with writing linear equations and function notation. The test is tentatively scheduled for next Friday, 1/20/12. Have a great weekend - see you Tuesday!

Thursday, January 12, 2012

1/12/12 Homework

All Classes: Worksheet on graphing linear equations from slope-intercept form (problems 5 and 6 must be solved for y before graphing - show your work and your final slope-intercept form). Some students were able to finish the worksheet in class.

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

1/11/12 No Homework

The classes are on different lessons due to the writing test. There is no homework tonight, but there will be some tomorrow on slope-intercept form that will be due on Friday.

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

1/10/12

The quiz on slopes last Friday (1/6/12) didn't go too well for quite a few students, so we're taking another one today for Academic 1 and 2 and Wednesday for Academic 3 and 4. (The students completed a mock writing assessment this morning to prepare for next week's formal assessment. Therefore, we have a modified schedule today and next Wednesday.)

Thursday, January 5, 2012

1/5/12 Homework

GALT workbook page 141 problems #1-3 and #10-21. There is also a quiz tomorrow consisting of 10 problems on finding the slope (2 using 2 ordered pairs, 4 using graphs, and 4 using equations).

Wednesday, January 4, 2012

1/4/12 No Homework

Today we learned about slope. No homework tonight, but tomorrow there will be homework and a quiz on Friday.
