Week of 10/31/11

This week we will finally learn some new material!  We will start the week on 2-step equations and then we will solve equations that contain absolute values.  We will have a quiz this week on 1- and 2-step equations (probably Wednesday).  And the next unit test (3B) will be next week.

10/27/11 Homework

All classes:  GALT workbook page 74 problems #1-15.  Problems 13, 14, and 15 must be simplified before you solve.

10/26/11 Homework

Today the classes focused on 1-step equations.  This is a skill that was learned in 7th grade and most students seem to understand the concept.  Some students are still struggling with working with integers.

Homework for tonight:
All Classes:  GALT workbook page 70 problems 1-15 (show work).

10/24/11 Study for the Test

Missing assignment reports were passed out in each class today.  Missing assignments count as a zero until turned in and graded.  Unit 3A test tomorrow - students should study the study guide (Unit 3A Test Review) that was reviewed in class.

Week of 10/24/11

Monday (10/24) we will be reviewing algebraic expressions for a Unit test (3A) on Tuesday.  The test will cover translating, evaluating, and simplifying.  Wednesday we will start equations.  We will review one- and two-step equations and learn about solving equations that include absolute value.  Have a great weekend!

10/19/11 No Homework

We had a shortened class schedule today for a pep rally to support our football teams in the playoffs.  No homework tonight.  Tomorrow (Thursday) we will be reviewing for the quiz on Friday.  Unit 3 will be split into three parts for testing.  Test 3A (covering Expressions) will be on Tuesday.  We will review on Monday.

10/18/11 Homework

We do have a homework sheet tonight on simplifying algebraic expressions.  First eliminate the parentheses by using the distributive property and then combine like terms.  Quiz scheduled for Friday on simplifying expressions - it will include the following vocabulary words:  constant, coefficient, variable, term, like terms, translate, evaluate, and simplify.

10/17/11 No Homework tonight!

The students performed very well on the quiz from Friday.  The grades are listed in the parent portal of Infinite Campus (if you don't have a login, contact the front office).  We started discussing simplifying algebraic expressions today.  There is no homework tonight, but we will have a worksheet for homework tomorrow (Tuesday, 10/18).

10/13/11 Homework???

We discussed the properties of algebra today - Commutative, Associate, Identity and Distributive.  The classwork/homework is page 58 in the GALT workbook problems 1, 3, 4, 13, 14, and 15.  There will be a short quiz (10 problems) tomorrow on translating/evaluating algebraic expressions.

10/12/11 Homework

We do have homework tonight.  It is a worksheet on writing algebraic expressions.  Some classes had time in class to finish this assignment.

10/11/11 Homework

The homework for tonight is a worksheet that was handed out in class.  The front side is translating expressions (the answers should be expressions, not one number) and the back side is evaluating expressions (the answers should be one number).  There are a total of 40 problems, but this is basically a review from 7th grade.  Some students were able to finish the worksheet in class.

ALL missing work (missing reports were passed out in class today - Tuesday) is due during homeroom/enrichment tomorrow (10/12/11)!  Grades must be in the system tomorrow afternoon and I need time to change the grades.

Miles 8th Grade Math

We will be starting Unit 3 on Tuesday (10/11/11).  Unit 3 focuses on Linear Equations and Inequalities.  This unit begins with translating and evaluating algebraic expressions (hopefully the students will remember some of this from last year).  We will have homework worksheets at least twice this week and possibly a quiz on Friday (10/14/11).
